Yang Sheng in TCM

In winter, Chinese people do not eat raw fruit, as they perceive it as cold-generating. All fruits ripen in warm periods; when consumed raw, they release a lot of internal cold into the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) states that nothing is more harmful to the body than unbalanced cold. The body tries to compensate for this cold, which can eventually lead to dysfunctions such as heat accumulation or internal weakness. Therefore, TCM recommends avoiding raw fruit, especially in winter, and instead consuming only gently processed, cooked, or steamed foods to warm the center (spleen and stomach) and protect digestive power.
